I ENHVER SKOLEKLASSE i Norge sitter 2-3 barn og opplever alvorlige rusproblemer i nærmeste familie. Dette er en stor barna – og ungdomsbefolkning som ofte er utsatt for omsorgssvikt. Foreldrenes rusproblemer belaster utvikling, hemmer i dagliglivet og setter spor for livet.

Skadene som påføres barn i rusbelastede familier, er et undervurdert samfunnsonde. Det er vanlig at barn med slik oppvekst gjør sitt ytterste for å skjule hjemmets rusproblemer for omverdenen.

BARNA ER USYNLIGE.

Når pappa har drukket, for han slik sukkersøt stemmer- jeg avskyr det, sier jeg når jeg blir intervjuet om hvordan jeg merker at faren min ikke var edru. Jeg var 9 år første gang jeg opplevde det. Hver uke traff jeg fem andre barn på omtrent samme alder som også hadde opplevd far eller mors alvorlige rusproblemer gjennom lang tid.

Barn som vokser opp i en familie hvor en eller begge voksne har et rusproblem, har større risiko enn andre barn for å utvikle egne psykiske og fysiske helseproblemer, og å utvikle atferdsproblemer og vanskeligheter i skolesituasjonen.

Jeg vet at tidlig hjelp kan være avgjørende for hvordan barna utvikler seg.

Hva kan være tegn og signaler fra et barn som har det vanskelig på grunn av rusmisbruk i hjemmet?

•         magesmerter

•         anspenthet i muskler

•         hodepine/migrene

•         konsentrasjonsproblemer

•         motorisk uro

•         tretthet

•         karakterer og innsats på skolen varierer

•         vansker med venner og sosial tilhørighet

•         følelsesmessig labilitet

•         overytere/overdrevet tilpasning/overdrevent ansvarlige

 

Barn som har eller er i ferd med å få rusrelaterte skader behøver ikke alltid å fremstå som ”vanskelige” barn. Det kan være barn som oppfattes som både selvstendige og veldig blide fra de er små.

En dårlig barndom er en av hovedårsakene til sykdom i voksen alder og tidlig død. Barna som oppdages og får hjelp har bevist at denne statistikken kan forandres. Likevel gjenstår det store løftet for «de gjemte og glemte barna».

Jeg snakker av erfaring, ikke fra kunnskap.
